Duties of the post:
This is a fabulous opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to fulfil the role of Dog Warden within our Public Health and Regulation team at Adur and Worthing Councils and would be a valued member of a friendly and professional team. We are a shared team across two authorities - Adur and Worthing Councils - situated between Brighton and Arun within the County of West Sussex.
You will have a wide ranging role with a varied workload including dealing with stray dogs and enforcement duties relating to dog control and animal welfare.
You will need to have experience of working with dogs in a professional capacity, be able to use your own initiative and work well as part of a team. This job requires a passionate and dedicated individual who enjoys working with the public, businesses and communities to bring about long-term change and to make a real difference. We have a strong focus on delivering wise regulation, focusing on a balanced approach between enabling and supporting our businesses and communities and, where appropriate, taking enforcement action.
You must possess good communication skills and have experience of dealing directly with members of the public. The role involves a significant amount of time on site carrying out inspections, patrols and responding to service requests. Therefore the ability to work on your initiative with limited on site supervision is an important part of the role. The role does require working outside of normal office hours to collect stray dogs, attend meetings and undertake enforcement. A full driving licence is essential.
Knowledge of Legislation and Enforcement procedures and certificated attendance at a recognised Dog Warden training course is desirable.
This role will also require you to be on a standby rota and to deal with out of hours work as required.
What we can offer
We are a forward thinking organisation and you will have the opportunity to develop and grow in this role. On top of this, you’ll get an excellent pay package with 26 days of paid leave per year (+ bank holidays) and a local government pension.
We offer flexible working conditions and benefits that can be tailored to suit you - from our parental leave policies through to employee discounts, we are committed to supporting you throughout your career with us.
We are currently making lasting changes to flexible working post-Covid, which will provide great opportunities for greater flexible working.
